How Vibration Massagers Work

A handheld vibration device creates repeated mechanical movement at the contact surface. Two useful specifications are how fast it moves and how far it moves.

Frequency

Frequency is the rate of repeated movement. Brands may express it as VPM or RPM depending on how the mechanism is described. Numbers should be interpreted alongside amplitude and device design.

Amplitude or stroke

Amplitude describes the size of movement. A short-stroke device can feel very different from a long-stroke percussion tool even when both are marketed for massage or recovery routines.

Claims vs mechanics

Mechanics are measurable product characteristics. Claims about pain, injury, healing or clinical superiority require a different level of evidence and should not be inferred from speed or stroke alone.
